Severe Storms Rage On...
Posted: (March 10, 2010 08:12 pm)

Multiple severe thunderstorm warnings rage on across much of northern Lousiana west to Texarkana into Arkansas... With a push of warm moist air heading northbound and dewpoints heading into the 60's you can expect enough juice to fire up some strong to severe storms going into the overnight.  The primary effect will be wind and hail damage with an isolated small tornado.  The energy is further north and west which will produce enough wind shear to spawn a few stronger tornadoes.

THese are the convective watchs from the SPC.  The trend will continue to shift into the Tenn Valley through the overnight as these storms move North east..

THE LIFTED INDEX'S SUPPORT SEVERE STORMS OVER THE WESTERN FRINDGES OF THE TENN VALLEY THROUGH TONIGHT PRODUCING ENOUGH "LIFT" IN THE ATMOSPHERE TO GIVE MANY SPOTS HAIL AND A FEW DOWN BLASTS OF WIND.

THE SURFACE BASE CAPE IS NOT ALL THAT IMPRESSIVE FOR MAJOR SEVERE STORMS THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT AS THE MODELS SHOW AROUND 1000 JOULES OF ENERGY OVER THE AREA'S CONDUCIVE FOR SEVERE STORMS.

THE HAIL THREAT CONTINUES OVER MUCH OF LA INTO AK AS THE SIG HAIL PROJECTION IS GREATER THAN 1 AND IN SOME CASES 2 ...THIS IS NOT HAIL SIZE ..IT'S A PREDICTOR...WHEN YOU HAVE A NUMBER OVER 1 THAT'S THE AREA CONDUSIVE FOR SIG HAIL

sigh
AND FINALLY THE EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR WHICH I AM USING TONIGHT SHOWS THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME SUPER CELLED THUNDERSTORMS WITH WINDS MAXING OVER 50KTS
