In September, 2011, Andrew Fleck founded GeoEnvironmental Atmosphere (GEA). He and his colleagues partnered with Live Weather Blogs forecast the weather, while delivering a better understanding to non-meteorologists of the affects of forecasted weather on the “Land Beneath The Clouds.” As president of GEA, he continues to see that the organization operates under this motto in fulfilling its mission to provide regular forecasts to the public, and more in-depth analysis to those working in Emergency Management and first response across North America.
In so doing, GEA has developed a solid team of contributors from all grade levels, from high school to college and beyond. Andrew hopes to leverage their interest to grow the organization and help provide funding for higher education to those aspiring to careers in meteorology and related fields. The team also makes field trips to educational institutions such as the Nurture Nature Center in Easton, Pennsylvania, and to National Weather Service offices. It’s all part of a hands-on curriculum to develop his forecast team, says Andrew. “I believe in giving first and receiving later,” he adds.
Andrew is on track to graduate in May of 2013 from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems and a minor in Emergency Management. Thus far, his activities have received mention in multiple news articles, including a piece about his storm chasing adventures in the university’s magazine, The Ship. He currently resides in Easton, Pennsylvania.
