**Early Dangerous High Heat Event on the Way**
Summer solstice occurs at 7:09pm Today and it will come in like a blow torch. Temperatures should reach the mid 90s Wednesday (record at Central Park is 98/1923) and the upper 90s on Thursday (record at Park is 97/1988). The high humidity will make the Heat Index (combination of temperature and humidity) reach between 98º-105º. For this reason most of the tri-state area is under a Heat Advisory through Thursday. The reason why this is a potentially dangerous situation is that the first real bout of heat is always taxing on the body. We are not use to the heat and its coming at us with a bang. Most area temperatures on Tuesday were only in the 70s! In 24 hours it will be near 100º, a major shock to the system.
Stay hydrated and in shaded areas if possible. Limit activity outdoors. Check on the elderly and pets.
To add to the difficult conditions an air quality alert is up through Thursday for most of the NYC tri-state area. Ground ozone, because of the air stagnation will be high. Those with respiratory issues should limit activity outdoors.
