Hot Summer...How many 90 degree days we will get this year???

Hello everyone,

As we have experienced along with most of the country, this obviously has been a very hot summer.

I just thought I would update the count on the number of 90 degree days in and around the Philadelphia Metro area so far this year. We are already above normal for the entire year already, keep in mind the record is 55 days of 90 degree days recorded in 2010 for Philadelphia.

                          2012 - 90 and 100 DEGREE DAYS SO FAR

Philadelphia -  33 Days( 2 in May, 7 in June, 21 in July, 3 in August so far)

2 - 100 Degree Days on July 7th(101 high temp) and July 18th(100 high temp)

Wilmington -   28 Days ( 2 in May, 8 in June, 17 in July, 1 in August so far)

2 - 100 Degree days on July 7th(101 high temp) and July 18th(101 high temp)

Allentown -   24 Days ( 1 in May, 7 in June, 15 in July, 1 in August so far)

(No 100 degrees in 2012 recorded so far.)

Altantic City - 22 Days( 2 in May, 6 in June, 14 in July, none so far recorded in August)

2 - 100 Degree days on July 7th(100 high temp) and July 18th(101 high temp)

In 2012 , will we break the all-time record 90 degree days set in 2010 in the Delaware Valley?

We have some ways to go before we reach that record but with this being the hottest year so far since records have been kept it's not impossible, in fact 90 degree days have been recorded as late as mid-October in our area.

As of today, now at 34... probably Eeek out 2 90 days this upcoming week, Thursday, Friday.. put as at 36..

I would say probably end up at 40-45, 90 degree days... that would place us in the top 5 count of All time...

Also, It is a very rare feat to have three consecutive years of 30+ 90 degree days, last occured 93,94,95... (those were the hottest summers on record respectively until 2010,2011...

Clearly in the last 25 years going back to the late 80s, we have had many more consistently Hot summers than the previous 100 years...

before everyone gets all up in arms over the global warming debate,,, cleraly we have had scorching summers since record keeping began.. 1934, 1936, 1954...

however, the data speaks for itself.. going back to 1988... the Amount of 90 degree days has Literally Doubled and in some years Tripled , year after year..

I am a firm believer in long term trends, as One particualr hot summer or cold winter doesnt really mean too much in the grand scheme of things...

there is an undeniable tilt towards the warm side.... You can argue urban development, heat island... Junk thermometers... or even the NWS lying about high temperatures to support global warmning(as one local meteoroligist did on his facebook page)

but at the end of the day,,, it is what it is.... Way too Hot....

great blog Mark. Philly needs 22 more days to get the record. I suspect a good run of 90 plus may get them close.
