I have been watching the mid-week storm next week and the gfs has been shifting it farther and farther east. I think the Euro has central PA in the jack pot, but I expect this storm to shift east as we get closer. I think the -NAO will put it toward the coast and give philly a rain to snow scenio. The poconos will be 12-18 inches, and 1-2 feet will extend into upstate NY. NYC and Boston will be on the warmer side of the storm so philly will actually have a leg up for once in this scenerio.
I agree it is way too early, however, with all our luck this winter. I am sure that New England will get hit by both storms, in addition to the one over the weekend and early next week as well. Meanwhile, it will either be cold/dry or rainy/warm in Philly for all those storms
That Crazy next week system is like the smelly friend that came home with you from a music festival and refuses to shower but insists on sleeping on your brand new sofa couch for the next week, "GO Home Already Man you Stink "! and get a haircut you slob..
I know Mark... that 93 superstorm was awesome... that is why I said my last comment in big caps...even though with the superstorm it was not all purely snow... while we got our 13-16" there was sleet for an extended period of time in delco adding like 2" of sleet followed by rain then a rainbow of all things as the sun came out at 6:25 PM Wow!
HOWEVER DARN IF YOU DO.... THE TELECONNECTORS ARE YELLING FOR A SNOWSTORM ALONG THE I-95 CORRIDOR BUT IS IT REAL??
It is going to be really interesting to see how this plays out...
Kevin... the 93 superstorm dropped around a foot in NYC with the low tracking right ON the coast and it was in mid-march. Just saying and that trough looks impressive so dont worry about warm air inless you are in Delaware or VA, where they always get screwed
I think we will have a problem getting snow around here while the NAO is there to block the reality of the beast is slow moving storms moving up from the southwest that can have too much time to tap warmer air from the south and of the Atlantic .... along with much much more added solar radiation by day this pattern screams snow far inland and northwest and rain and temps in the 40's along the coastal plain which for the most part includes Philadelphia south and east. Lehigh Valley Poconos may need to watch more...
Now for the Philadelphia 5 county area it is a coin flip but odds favor rain in this type of pattern with waning winter cold becoming stale and the solar bug getting the best of warming things up too much at the surface.
