With the NAO plunging toward -2 and the PAN climbing toward +1 later next week into March, one would think we see a very large system on the east coast in that time period. The question is, is there any cold air around in that same timer period? With the southern jet locked and loaded as well, I would think the modles show something very big in this timer period to end out winter. Winter could end with a very large storm system that affects Viriginia northward, time will tell.
tominpa62, The time frame that you posted about is precisely what I was speaking of regarding a good chance of seeing a significant storm, on or near the 27th (within my blogs) and possibly during the first week of march.
It does kind of seem like Sandy broke the atmosphere. How many coastal storms, rain or snow have hit the middle Atlantic since Sandy? Maybe 3 in in 4 months?
I think the February 26 - March 2 time period is the last best chance for a real snow storm. And that is only because that far out you can take your pick of the ensemble member that tells your preferred story :-). Yes, it's been a rough go for Mid-Atlantic snow trackers since the Halloween storm of 2011. And I'm afraid that it's going to stay that way until B101 starts playing Christmas music again -- which could be September, so don't fret. Of course, storm geeks did have Sandy to kick around last year, so it's not like we were without interesting weather events. Another week or so, and I'll be rooting for spring.
lol, yeah, it was a bit of a blizzard, wasn't it? ... and then there was sun. What a freakish winter. I'm growing tired of getting my hopes up just to have them not be dashing through the snow.
George, that's one of the funniest things I've ever read. That storm lasted 3 minutes and 2 seconds in Avondale, PA. It was beautiful. I pretended it was going to last 18 hours.
Marcus, I love you, but I fear you're getting bitter. Although it hasn't been quite cold enough for that. I empathize with you; it's hard for me not to have snow rage, either.
Hey Lauren that is great looks like that squall is heading this way into Delco from the NW.... that is what Daytime heating does when the air is much much colder aloft... its most likely zero or below upstairs.
Yep. Back to flurries and sun already...I wish that would've kept up for just an hour or two. It was like one of those thunderstorms that roll through when you're in Florida...sunny....all of the sudden dark and pouring, then right back to sunny within a half hour. Weird.
What else could we possibly need? -NAO, -AO, +PNA for the next couple of weeks....if we cant get a snowstorm, this winter was never meant to be. Look at these favorable teleconnections.
GUys sorry for not being on much today Im on my dads laptop my laptop won't bootup therefore I have to reset everything back to default I lost all my files and such so ill be on after it's done it is as 6% right now I started it like 10m ago so i got time:P
Guys look at the recent temp anomalies forecasted for early march. It was originally forecasted to be a torch, but has trended colder to the tune of slightly above normal to normal for coastal areas
