We'll be watching the radar through 11pm to see how it reacts to the colder air set to move in the area from DC to NYC with the changeover from rain to snow.
The drop in temps will come in two parts...first after sunset the next by 8-9pm for the NJ PA DE MD DC area.
We see temps still a bit on the warm side for NJ PA MD DC right now so it will take a few more hours for any type of changeover to snow.
To be honest, I don't see where it will get cold enough to support snow. If the system is stronger than modeled and is further north and west than modeled, then more warm air will be available as well. It is still in the low 40's in Chester Co so I am sure it is warmer south of me.
I wil say that here in Dover I did see some (very few if that) snow pellets mix in with the light rain about 20 minutes ago 415 pm, near downtown. But temps are still above 40 degrees here.
The radar looks very interesting to me. The moisture to the WV/VA border seems to be filling in from the south west. You can see the draw of the moisture into the system. At the same time the moisture continues a slow march north towards PHL. Yes it is not hitting the ground but I believe the sheer volume is sufficient to cool and moisten the atmosphere. I'll make a call that PHL will see at least one inch based on what I see on the radar. The cutoff will be sharp wherever it occurs but at this point I'll say it’s just north and east of PHL.
