What happened to backend snow? Christmas eve storm looks good per the 6 z. Bad news its FOURS DAYS OUT. Dec 26th to the 27th to my eyes looks rain big rains for the cities and heavy snow for new england. Thanks for reading have a bless day.
Rebel I'm a bit amazed that you can make some predictions this far out. Models give you guidance and that what we use them for.
The art of forecasting goes way beyond models. We said we may get some backend snow never said accumulations never said nothing more than cold air rushing behind to start to show the transition to winter.
I think you are trying to make winter happen when it traditionally does not in late December.
Rebel....Ya gotta be more positive my man after all it's Dec 21 and we are still here. My daughter woke me up this morning at 5:45am turned my light on in my room and shouted out....Dad we are still here...LOL
Reb....you bet I'm your biggest fan. You usually do pretty well with what to expect in the days ahead. You have a blessed Christmas as well my friend!
Dominick...haha we survived the 21st simply amazing. Some of the models showed a pretty negative NAO and negative AO leading to the end of the world but that didn't happen, instead we are alive and it's 56 and raining! lol As far as the snow in rural areas up your way it usually looks whiter than the areas closer to the city as there is less pollution and disturbance of the snow when it falls. However results vary greatly so hopefully that will help you out.
Reb I like your blogs are back. But I agree wit scootch, can't write off the post Christmas storm yet at all. We need this storm to setup our block and see the strength of that to figure out what's gonna happen. I think my Sunday we know for sure.
Yeah, backend snows happen about 2% of the time around these parts. Part of the issue is the fact that the west wind in this area is a downsloping wind. That ends the precip when the cold air comes in. Backend snows work out much better on the other side of the mountains! The 27th storm is still up in the air(so to speak). It cracks me up to see people analyzing rain/snow lines a week in advance. Have to see how the blocking sets up from the storm that just passed and see what happend with the little wave at Christmas. To say yay or nay at this point is like throwing darts at a dart board! I would probably favor rain at this point though, simply because the cold pattern isn't fully established yet.
Hey Reb, give the 27th storm a while longer. The rainstorm today has to set up the blocking pattern before the models will catch on for next week. It's a week away. It may not happen, but don't bail yet. It could be a Festivus miracle!
The same thing that happens to all back end snow ,it doest happen .The same thing that happens to these fantasy snow storms that look strangely like rain when they arrive..
the promise that was there for the end of Dec. is dying a slow death in the Philly area. The models are just that and despite some cooler weather coming Dec will be the exact opposite of what was predicted.
Tough for backed snows with 56. Backed snows are like scratch off tickets, they don't win Often. Great to see you back on the board brother. Keep on rocking in the free world!
Tea Anyone??? Let's Party!!!!
Post Christmas storm will likely be wet. I'm with ya on that one.
