I know - your'e saying - "wha???" Well since there really isn't any reall winter right now, and since it looks like some mild weather may be in the MA late next week - i say - what the heck!
Don't go off on the title - just wanted to generate some views!! I don't think winter is anywhere near over - just MIA right now.
First of all - I think the site has some technical issues. Given my tech experience and the troubleshooting I have tried over the last few weeks - I have concluded that the editing toolbar has a code issue or management has decided that it won't be available for everyone. I think email is also having a problem since every email i sent for help to the site IT (Nemuel) has not even generated a reply! :(
Now onto other things.
The PGA season starts today in Hawaii with the tournament of champions! AWESOME! I will be watching it with a stoli in hand! This is the year for the young guns IMO.
And so, with the short-term lousy teleconnections it does look like some decent warm weather will creep in next week and allow us all to get the sticks out to at least hit the range if not get in 9-18.
Last year I played golf in every month right here in the MA. First time ever - and it wasn't ever really cold! Good news is my handicapt came down to a 9 so i'm happy. Bad news is that meant no snow last year. I hope it changes around here because it looks a bit ominous right now. BTW - I can't even check spelling, so if I misspell - too bad!! :)
So if you can't get the snow, you gotta go with the flow (zonal that is!). Thursday next week looks like the better timing, but Wed may be just as good.
If you get out remember a few things.
1) you haven't played in a while so don't expect anything out of your game.
2) work on basics and try to improve something that caused you to lose strokes last year (grip, balance, turn, etc..)
3) Swing easy - 40s and 50s aren't exactly short wearing weather - you need to swing even more loose and easy - and watch those stingers! OUCH!!!
TIP: work on your shoulder turn and swing path by really working on your hip turn. The hip turn (back and then through) is the most important part of the swing IMO. You can turn your shoulders all you want, but if you don't get the hips turning correctly, your swing path will be way off and you will either swing like a gorilla (all arms), or have a out-to-in swing path.
If you turn the hips correctly your shoulder turn will have no choice but to be good, both on the back swing and the down swing. Plus - that's really where you will generate your power.
Disclaimer: I am NOT a PGA professional nor a teacher - so take this as advice from another golfer who has worked on his game in recent years to see the handicap drop from a 15 to a 9. Short-game, and hip turn.
Hopefully there won't be too many of these blogs this winter due to warm weather! Telelconnections look better in support of late Jan being more favorable for what we want to see around here, even the PNA shows positive - but until then, keep the swing going!
As always - i leave behind a small treat to try. Enjoy!
Mix Parrot Bay, Black Haus, and pineapple juice in a shaker with ice. Strain into shot glass. Pour blue curacao down side of glass (this will make it sink to the bottom. Salute and flip!! (source: drinksmixer.com)
PSU - I thought the best advice was the drink! LOL!
Marilyn - enjoy the milder weather - still nothing to get excited about for snow lovers IMO.
Reb - Many thanks! But have to pass this time. I'll only get out on Wed for some range work. But since the SE ridge keeps showing up on models - probably more opps in the future. Maybe even some range today! It's nice out!
You have some great advice. You sound like my roommate, who is a Penn State professional golf management student. Most important type is to stay loose and keep your hands warm when it is 50 degrees.
