Looks like a hot summer and a above average one at that.. The next six months look above average temperatures making it a hot summer upcoming. Hurricane Season looks to be a tad bit slower then normal . But remember it only takes ONE.
The chart above is showing that slow push or idea of a lean on the averages toward a weak El Nino. This could mean a slower than normal hurricane season for the east coast VA beach and OBX.
Here is how the three month period looks from the CPC Climate Prediction Center.
EL NINO...LA NINA...or LA NOTHING?
The thinking from Roanoke Lynchburg and Triad is a NEUTRAL trend through summer with a lean toward a weak El Nino toward October of this year.
This map is from the CPC (Climate Prediction Center) and I agree with the idea of above normal temps for most of the east coast.
Rainfall for a summer is always tough to predict simply due to the nature of hit or miss storms but I think we'll see ample thunderstorms in late July and August to bring the seasonal total to above normal.

Severe Weather this summer
Expect an active season for severe weather with the tornado season rolling into early July. The pattern is neutral but we feel the activity will be slightly above average for NC and VA.
I live in Lynchburg. Looks like we still have to keep our guard up for winter still. March will be coming in like a lion, is how it looks. Im so ready for summer. Im ready for sunset at 9pm, with warm summer nights. June bugs, fireflies, and the sound of thunder. Fresh cut grass and fireworks on July 4th. I can get up at 6 in the morning with the sun shining through my window and soaking up some sun. Ahhh... but its only February!
