New York City Summer Outlook 2013 Update April 3, 2013

It's going to be a hot summer in NYC and this includes North Jersey Long Island and SW Connecticut.  We use climatological seasons so we are talking June July August not the start of June 22.  The pattern is neutral and there are some signs below of a lean toward El Nino by the end of the summer.

el nino outlook

The chart above is showing that slow push or idea of a lean on the averages toward a weak El Nino. This could mean a slower than normal hurricane season for the east coast including NYC and Long Island.

Here is how the three month period looks from the CPC Climate Prediction Center.

We are going with the CPC of above normal temps and near normal precip for NYC LI CT North Jersey. Expect temps to start in the 90+ in early May but the real heat is in July and August with several heatwaves.

Tony...

It's early so far we'll see how things play out once we hit June 1st and beyond. So far it has been cooler and at times wetter. The NWS calls summer June July August from a climatology stand point

Oh, not another hot scorcher of a Summer! Summers in NYC are brutal with high humidity. Then we have Con Edison desperately trying to keep the grid from failing so we can keep the air conditioners humming. I HATE Summer and its about to get hotter earlier and last longer. Bummer! Temps in the low 70's would make for a great summer. However, with climate change in full swing, things seem to be getting warmer :(

Omg!!! Have mercy! This is the most depressing news I've heard in the last six months. I sincerely hope this forecast is wrong and we end up having a very nice and mild summer, with temps in the lower 70's, We can't take another horrendously hot summer like 2012's. (:-
