The GFS has been taking the lead the past few days on the triple headed clippers about to roll past the Midwest and East Coast. The NAM is starting to come around after days of very dry air and a lack of moisture at all on the model guidance. The Euro has shown flashes and looks to lead in the GFS's world as of this morning.
This means we have 3 chances of snow from Chicago to Cincy to Pittsburgh. The east coast will see snow from DC north through New England and it could get as far south as Richmond with just enough cold air.
I am thinking the 2nd clipper on Sunday may become "best in show" as it slows down and actually pops off the coast. This means New England and to a degree Long Island could be looking at a moderate snow event.
The third and last clipper of the first week of February will be a bit of a wild card depending how big clipper #2 gets on Sunday. It does not look as big as clipper #2 at this point but I'd like to hold off on and exact snow amount until Sunday on this one.

CLIPPER #1(more like a second arctic front)
WHEN:FRIDAY 2am to FRIDAY 3pm
TYPE:ALL SNOW (coldest of the three clippers)
WHERE:DC north to the POCONOS (PHL BWI ILG LEHIGH POCONOS)
HOW MUCH:1" or so...some places will just get a coating.
This is a hyrid Arctic Front/Clipper that will bring snow showers and a period of light snow for tomorrow. I do think after a big rain event it's hard to re-tap any moisture in that quick of a turn around. This will be the least amount of snow out of the three clippers.
Nice work Rob, as usual. While we haven't gotten "the big one" I will take cold air and clippers, snow is snow, no matter how much. Definitely not going the "woe is me, bring on spring" route. Some snow > no snow.
.07" of qpf. Can we just get all these .05 .1 .07 clippers in one big storm of...a monster .5" of qpf!!!
Just too much to ask around Philly these 2 winters to get a normal 3-6" snowfall. I'm not asking for 2009-2011. I'm just asking for a NORMAL snowfall sigh.
Will be casually watching. Hope we get a little something from these clippers. That freezing one last week was a nice little surprise IMBY. Thanks for all your work keeping us informed!
