In North Carolina there is not a lot of snow . But there is potental this year to get above the average due to the blocking setting up. The other thing we have to watch in the Late Winter is the potental for tornadoes and severe weather. Both of these can occur in the NC region including all parts of the state.

OUR AWARDS...20 YEARS OF FORECASTING
This is a look at the Winter Outlook 2012-2013. We are looking at the Big 3 Factors that will carve out this winter. We have been doing this for over 20 years so hear goes.
The NAO or North Atlantic Oscillation is simply a "blocking" pattern that allows for cold air to slow down and allows LOW pressure to form off the coast and has time to explode into snowstorms.
It's basically the traffic cop of weather. Slow the pattern down and the odds of a juiced up system getting into the Eastern Part of the U.S. starts to increase. Negative NAO = More storm chances east of the Mississippi.
Put the NAO and AO in sync and a nice dose of moisture and you lean toward an above average winter in East and in the Rocky Mountain Region. Could it be like 2009-2010 or 2002-2003 ? Maybe but we are just too early in the game to look at that yet.
The Positive Phase could mean colder temps for the Rockies and PacWest. Negative Phase means warmer waters near the Gulf of Alaska and that could mean wetter and warmer storms for the Rockies.
Hello Rob and the rest of the forecasters. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Looks like there is going to be a change coming up with wild wintry weather for Chicago and Ohio in the next two weeks. My question is when do you guys think that Charlotte will get its first measurable snowfall? Anyone...Please take a jab at it. I see Charlotte is listed on the Golden Shovel list. What does that mean? It would be nice to have need for a big shovel here in Charlotte. Going on a cruise from the 8th-15th and it would be nice to come home to colder weather and the possibility of SNOW in the forecast. Thanks for replying. Hope everyone is well.
I'm new to this blog and live in West Cary (just outside of Raleigh, NC). So... like Brad, I am wondering what the status update is for our area this winter. Thanks for any updates!
