Wow, 1092 mb high!!

Thurs AM 2/28/13: Last night’s 00Z NAM model run forecasted something I don't think I've ever seen before – high pressure over Greenland reaching 1092 mb (32.24 inches) by Sunday morning (forecast map below). If accurate, this sure is a sign that some very dense, cold air remains in the northern hemisphere despite the turn to March on Friday.  The 06Z model run also had similar pressure readings up there so I guess it wasn't a fluke.

This is exactly why I think all snow at the coast with blizzard conditions. This high will feed the low with PLENTY of cold air as it intensifies!

Paul last time I observed pressures near that high over greenland was back in the 2010 winter but the readings were lower 1068/1072 mb if I recall.

The nam usually exaggerates the min/max numbers but this still indicates very high pressures.

Certainly can track some bitter cold air on the latest Euro model run from Greenland to the Hudson Bay region of Canada by Wed/Thurs of next week.

Now is that gonna throw down more cold air than anticipated for the area next week?
