So the snow lovers of Minnesota were ripped off last winter with little snow and at times it looked like spring even in January. We WILL have a better winter!
So how will the winter play out for MSP and the rest of Minnesota? The answer lies somewhere in between for not only MSP but for most of Minnesota.
We all remember this moment (Dec 10, 2010) and this was off a huge winter with a record AO (Arctic Oscillation) and just the right storm track.
We are projecting a weak to moderate El Nino for this Winter. And El Ninos are not big snow producers in the Twin Cities, but we are expecting nothing like last winter.

The forecast for the Winter 2012-2013 Winter for Minneapolis is below average snowfall with near average temperatures. A few wildcards we will be watching can be found below:
The current tropical forcing is favorable for the Minneapolis area to see an above average snowfall winter, but we are forecasting this to change as we approach Winter. However, if it does not change as expected we might need to bump up totals.
