A storm will get its act together off the coast today. Cold air is in place for areas North and West of I95 for snow. The precipitation will be rain or be mixed with rain South and East. A band of snow form the west with a weak system and the precipitation with the storm from the South will congeal over the area today. This is when the heaviest and steadiest snow will occur. My thinking right now is that the accumulating snow will last for 4 or 5 hours since this storm is a quick mover.
The storm is taking a classic track Southeast of Montauk Long Island and will be bombing off the coast. This is why I think the rain will change to a heavy snow for a time over Central and Eastern Long Island. That area should receive several inches of snow before the storm winds down.
This is a nowcasting situation. I will watch for radar trends through the day.
Thanks Rebleg...Very concerned now for Long Island and CT with heavy snow. Blizzard like condtions possible for a time over Eastern New England tonight. latest snow totals at my site!
